Tom Hanks won his first Oscar 1994 for his portrayal of an AIDS-stricken man in "Philadelphia". One year later he was once again awarded an Oscar for his performance in "Forrest Gump". Tom Hanks has also sought challenges off screen as a director, and debuted as such in 1996 with the movie "That Thing You Do".
