Explanation
Peru is a republic in western South America. The country has 30 million inhabitants and covers an area of 1,285.220 km². The capital is called Lima. The Peruvian territory was home to some of the oldest civilisations in the world such as Norte Chico and, later on, the Inka Empire. The Spanish Empire conquered the area in the 16th century. Peru gained independence in 1821.
