Bet your knowledge and answer Start the QuizCorrect answer
Tritium
Explanation
Tritium or hydrogen-3 is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen. The nucleus of tritium contains one proton and two neutrons, whereas the nucleus of protium (the abundant isotope) contains one proton and no neutrons. Naturally occurring tritium is extremely rare on Earth. Tritium is used as a radioactive tracer and as a fuel for nuclear fusion reactions for energy generation or weapons. The name of this isotope is derived from the Greek tritos, meaning 'third'.
