Cameroon is a unitary state in central and western Africa. The country has around 20 million inhabitants and an area of 475,442 km2. The capital is called Yaoundé. Cameroon became a German colony in 1884. After WW2, the area was divided between the French and the British. It gained independence in 1960-61. Compared with other African states, Cameroon is politically and socially stable.
