Explanation

The Hellenic Republic is a country situated on the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula. The country has around 11 million inhabitants and an area of 131,940 km². Greece is generally considered the cradle of Western civilization and has a long and rich history which has influenced three continents. The country was ruled by a military junta 1967-74 and joined the EU in 1981.
